and other people's expectations.
In my pursuit of a new language—an active, deliberate act of renewal—I found the exact equation for this era of my life: Adelante = Forward. It means no more soft-pedaling. It means stepping entirely out of the shadows of what was, and moving fiercely into what is next.
When an era that defined your entire adulthood dissolves, the aftermath is a profound, silent void. We were each other's—growing side by side until one of us withered. Now, I embrace life by looking at my singular trajectory. I have reclaimed my time. My passions and pursuits—whether singing, voiceovers, or creativity—were never a backdrop, but today I am rediscovering them in a new light. Because now, it is just me. I am prioritizing my physical resilience and exploring the fullness of my life, from diving into culinary classes to stepping onto a dance floor exactly as I choose.
I completely reject the patriarchal double standards around aging, desire, and dating. We can explore connections without hesitation, ageist expectations, or societal shame.
In this society, the expectation is that women must endlessly cross their fingers and hope for a ring. I refuse that narrative- it is some for some, but not a goal, reward, or prize I'm aiming for. The gold standard of my life is Joy, Companionship, and Absolute Fulfillment. If I want the freedom of a connection where we share time but keep the sanctity of our own homes, that is exactly what I will claim.
